Glen Gardiner

Grand Master Glen Gardiner is experienced in multiple Martial Art disciplines, a qualified instructor in eight Martial Arts and a former Military Unarmed Combat Instructor for the Australian Army.

He has trained, taught, conducted seminars, and competed in Australasia, South East Asia and North America. Commencing his Martial Arts training in 1980 as a young Australian Army soldier. Glen has since trained in 23 different Martial Art systems training with many noted and experienced Martial Artists who added considerable depth to his understanding of multiple Martial Arts styles and systems. His mentors have included his brother, Sensei Martin Gardiner, Sensei’s John Whipp and Gordon “Jock” Armstrong who have all had a pivotal influence in his development.

As a member of the Australian Defence Force Glen was involved in the development of training and instruction of Military Unarmed Combat (MUC) in the Australian Army from the 1980’s through to the late 1990’s. During and after that period he has also been involved in training foreign Defence and Police personnel in the Philippines, East Timor, Indonesia and the USA.

Qualifying as a MUC Instructor in 1990 he trained Australian Army units and members of specialist Australian policing organizations throughout Australia, instructing on nearly every MUC Exponent and Instructor course conducted by the Australian Army in Australia up to 1998. In that time he met some of the most respected names in Australian MUC including Mr. Ken “Blue” Curran, Denis Gaskell, Greg Mawkes, his teacher and Officer in Command (OIC) Military Unarmed Combat Wing, John Whipp, and many more.

He has been involved in training various specialist policing and government security organizations within Australia, South East Asia and Oceana. Glen has developed training programs for voluntary principles of security and human rights, security and risk management, trained specialist personnel from varying government’s as well as supported government sponsors for capacity peace development initiatives for youth and Martial Arts programs in conflict environments.

In addition to MUC Glen practiced multiple civilian Martial Arts including Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, Wrestling, Boxing, Wing Chun and other Chinese systems, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Mu Thai, and Filipino Martial Arts. He considers himself extremely lucky being exposed to many exceptional instructors, mentors and role models who have significantly contributed to his Martial Arts and personal development and experience.

As an instructor Glen believes we must recognize the importance of understanding our responsibility and obligations to make a positive difference in people’s lives not only as a Martial Artist but as a human, contributing positively to society. Integrity, compassion, courage, empathy, leadership and professionalism are essential qualities to make that difference.

Glen teaches Zen Goshu Goshin Jutsu, IBF Batto Do, and the Cacoy Canete Doce Pares World Wide (CCDP WW) system and is a member of the CCDP WW Advisory Board. He is a founding member and the current Chief Instructor of the Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA), a non-profit organization for the development of Martial Arts.

The team consisting of 7 competitors won 2 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals in the sparring divisions of the competition. Glen personally won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal after being absent from the ring for a period of ten years

 2007

  • Trained the Indonesian team who fielded 27 competitors for the 2007 Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation (CDPE WF) World Stick Fighting Championship, the team won a total of 12 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals in the events sparring divisions. Glen promoted and raised sponsorship for the World Championship hosting the event in Jakarta, Indonesia with representation from 11 countries, he was the event Tournament Director for the event and hosted the Australian Ambassador, Polish Ambassador, Head of Indonesian National Police and other Diplomatic and Embassy, Indonesian Government, Military and Corporate Sector representatives during the event
  • Later in the year Glen travelled to Timor Lestè working for the Royal Norwegian Embassy Section, Dili, in Timor Lestè to conduct a feasibility study to conduct nationwide sporting programs for Martial Arts and Ritual Arts gangs in the country as part of an overall peace capacity development program for the government of Timor Lestè.

2008

  • Inducted into the Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation Hall of Fame “For Excellence in The Promotion of Sports Eskrima” award in March 2008
  • Inducted into the Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the World Karate Union Hall of Fame under the “Martial Artist of The Year” category on 4 October 2008 in the Gold Coast, Australia.
  • Attended the inaugural New Zealand National Stick Fighting Championship in Christchurch on 26th October 2008; was the team coach for the Indonesian team and competed, winning a Gold, a Silver and a Bronze in the competition, the team won a total of seven medals.
  • Tournament organizing committee member for the CMAA Inaugural National Indonesian Knife Fighting Competition, “Blade Master 2008” with over 80 competitors
