Tonny Soeharto


Training Syllabus and Management (TSM) Sub-Committee

Tonny commenced his Martial Arts training in 1977 with Pencak Silat and Silat Kuntau Macan Putih with Senior Instructor Mustar & Junior Instructor. He continued his training in these systems while developing an interest in Kuntau Ngo Heng Kun training with his uncle Oei Yau Ting.

Tonny started and showed his interest in Arnis Eskrima in 2004 due to its similarities to the previous systems he had been exposed to.

In 2006 Tonny met and had the opportunity to train Arnis Eskrima at the Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) with CMAA Senior Instructor Glen Gardiner. Tonny developed his FMA and open hand combative skills at the CMAA.

He successfully competed in the 2007 Cacoy Canete Doce Pares Worldwide Arnis Eskrima Championships, in Jakarta, Indonesia, winning 2 Gold medals, one in the men’s Single Stick Division and the other in the Double Stick Division for his age group. In 2008 he captained the Indonesian CMAA team in the New Zealand National Stick Fighting Tournament in Christchurch winning a bronze medal in the Men's Double Stick Division. In 2009 Tonny competed in Cebu, Philippines at the Cacoy Canete Doce pares World Wide Championship winning a Silver medal in the Men's Light Weight 40-50 years Double Stick Division.

Later in 2009 Tonny was promoted 1st Dan, Cacoy Canete Doce Pares World Wide.

In 2010 he started training classes in East Java promoting the CMAA, FMA and Military Unarmed Combat Combative training in Blitar and Malang.

Today Tonny continues his training with FMA 9th Dan and former Australian Army Unarmed Combat Instructor Glen Gardiner. He runs seminars and training programs for the Indonesian Police, Police Mobile Brigade (BRIMOB) and other civilian Martial Artists.

2004
Developed his interest in Arnis/Eskrima and began his search for references and tutorial from the internet. He started an Arnis Eskrima study group in Nishoku Knife Factory in Blitar.
2006
Commenced training at the Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) with Senior Instructor Glen Gardiner.
2007
Competed in the 2007 World Arnis Eskrima Championships, in Jakarta, Indonesia. Winning 2 gold medals.
2008
Captained Team CMAA Indonesia in the New Zealand National Stick Fighting tournament.
2009
  • Received 1st Dan Cacoy Canete Doce Pares Eskrima-Eskrido
  • Competed in the 2009 CDP World Arnis Eskrima Championships in Cebu, Philippines, winning silver medal in Single Stick 40 – 49 Men’s Division.
2010
Started CMAA Blitar Training Group
2010 – 2018
Continued training at the CMAA under the tutelage of Chief Instructor GM Glen Gardiner, conducted seminars and assisting the development of Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) in Indonesia.
2019
  • Senior Instructor, Arnis Eskrima intensive training program at the Indonesian National Police Mobile Brigade Corps (BRIMOB) at Watukosek Training Center, East Java, Indonesia.
  • Trained Gegana, Indonesian National Police Mobile Brigade Corps (BRIMOB) at Mako Brimob Kelapa Dua, Jakarta, Indonesia.
  • Supervised Arnis Eskrima intensive training program at Mako Brimob Menado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
  • Conducted one-week Arnis Eskrima intensive training at Pusdik Brimob, Watukosek, East Java, Indonesia.
  • Continued training at the CMAA under the tutelage of Chief Instructor GM Glen Gardiner
