Wesley Barnes

Club and Member Management (CMM) Sub–Committee

Wes has studied martial arts since 1990, training in multiple disciplines in the US, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia.

Wes started his martial arts journey studying the Shaolin Kenpo Karate system in the US from 1990 to 1994 under Ron Francisco, a student of Master Bob Nohelty, who was trained by GMs George Pesares, Nick Cerio and Fred Villari. Over the years, Wes has trained in other multiple systems and styles training, including boxing, Krav Maga, judo and kendo.

Based in Singapore, Wes has studied Lightning Scientific Arnis International (“LSAI”) under Master Dr. Vicente Reyes and his senior instructors since 2013. During this time, He has also had the privilege to train with several other visiting LSAI masters, including GM Roberto Labaniego, GM Romeo Valenzuela, and GM Herman Licanto, as well as many others who have contributed to his development and deepened his understanding of martial arts and FMA in particular.

He began studying combatives under GM Glen Gardiner at the Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) in 2012 during his frequent trips to Indonesia, and he is a member of the wider Combined Martial Arts Association. He considers GM Gardiner’s combatives system to be a comprehensive and effective set of skills drawn from multiple disciplines, that also emphasizes the development of the mental and physical capabilities necessary to perform in high pressure situations.

Besides martial arts, Wes’s training interests include shooting, ultra-running and functional strength development.
